| CAIROLIVE was founded by Tarek Atia in the mid-1990s. An Egyptian American who was born on the banks of the Nile and brought up in the suburbs of Washington DC, Atia began his media career publishing magazines and newspapers as a student, before working professionally at Al-Ahram Weekly, the English language arm of Egypt’s largest press organization, where he was Assistant Editor in Chief. His articles have been published in The Washington Post, Neue Zurcher Zeitung and other prominent publications around the world, and he is often quoted as a media critic. He is currently the Media Training Specialist at the Egypt-based Media Development Program (MDP). |
