The right touch of flash
Mohamed Heneidi (left), looking slick in a tuxedo, cracked jokes throughout
the intermission. cairolive.com asked him if it felt weird being at the
film festival, just after he'd played a TV announcer whose first job is covering a film festival in Gaana al Bayan
Al-Tali... "You saw that!"
Heneidi laughed. Yeah -- who could forget Nader El-Sarya'oussi. The film has made LE18
million so far -- it cost almost 10 to make.
Veteran Egyptian director Tawfik Saleh and former child star Fayrouz
also received lifetime achievement awards. Fayrouz arose from under
the stage thanks to a clever mechanical gimmick as torrents of silver,
purple and green confetti rained down on the audience. Nice.
Afterwards Fayrouz stood hugging younger stars Mona Zaki and Hanan
Turk. "I thank Hussein Fahmy for allowing me to experience this kind of
applause when I'm this old. I can't contain my happiness with all these
generations remembering me and clapping for me," she had said on stage.
Saleh -- the award-winning director -- said that he'd been honored in
several countries, but "tonight, to be honored in my country, has a
taste all of its own."
That's it folks -- which means there's been progress -- they're
learning to keep it short and sweet, with just the right touch of
flash.
