Ramadan thoughts

Dear Sir:

"Of yameesh, fawanees, and televised contemplation" is an excellent article -- see how easy it is for Muslims to follow all the religious duties in unison and at the same time all over the world, while we are unable to stand united against the enemies of Islam? You must write about the misery happening in Afghanistan, and your TV serials must project it by making films on such a burning issue. I am a pediatrician from Pakistan and I graduated from Assiut University 19 years ago. I lived in Egypt for 6 years but my heart still beats in Cairo. I still have lots of love and intimacy with Egypt just like I did when I was young student.

Rafiq Kara

Salaam,

Your site is traditionally great. Well done and keep up the good work. One comment -- I could not find any thing about Ramadan dominant on your front page.

Herbie rides again

Sirs:

Yes I did enjoy this article (Real jazz comes to town -- interview with Herbie Hancock). But I just wanted to suggest -- why don't African Americans also pick West African names?

Political bravado

Hi there,

Bravo. You put your hands on a successful recipe (Why doesn't Afghanistan make Rolexes?) for deep analysis of the very best columnists in the Arab world. Nice language. Political tones which are much listened to these days. This is a super article and very very useful to a lot of readers in the US and Arab world.

Brian

Sir

Your site reminds me of the Hamdi Kandil program on TV but with much more in-depth analysis rather than just presenting the headlines. The updated news is also very informative and interesting.

Omar

Sir:

I enjoyed all your articles especially the Hassaeain Heikal review and the review of the two TV programs. That is a lot of work and excellent journalism.

Denouncing terror

Hello,

I looked at your site and thank you for giving people chances to share their ideas with others.

Terrorism is a crime against humanity. It is a brutal attack on innocent people. Those who resort to or support terrorism in the name of Islam are in great error.

They are committing a crime which God has cursed in the Koran. All true Muslims denounce terrorism of any kind, and share the sorrows of its victims. This is the work of ignorant, bigoted people, criminals who have nothing to do with religion. The solution which will applied against these individuals and groups who are trying to commit their deeds of savagery under the guise of Islam, will be the instruction of people in the true moral teaching of Islam

The word Islam has the same meaning as "peace". Islam has forbidden terror and violence. All forms of barbarism, violence are forbidden by Islam.

The true picture

Dear cairolive:

Everyday I visit your website and read all the latest news about what is going on in Cairo. Today I read this article about "stereotyping" and it brings a tear to my eye. While your article is true in saying that there are some who stereotype anyone from the Middle East, please don't think that all of America is like that. There is a saying in America that says, "one bad apple can spoil the whole bunch" and I feel that this is the case. The people here who act with hatred in their hearts have probably never been to your part of the world to see how wonderful your people and your country are. They probably have never even met an Arabic person.

I had the opportunity to visit Cairo for several weeks and also to visit Lebanon. While there are many people there who have a hatred for Americans, I was very fortunate because I was treated with grace and respect. It is true that your culture is much different than ours, but not once did I have any fear of being there. In fact, I came home full of respect for your country, your people.

Let me share with you a small story about a family that I met while in Cairo. These people did not know me at first, but after a few days they invited me into their home for a small meal. What is most amazing is the fact that they are very poor! They do not have the extra food or water to share with others. They barely have enough for their own family to live on, but yet they feed me, and shared conversation with me just as if I lived there. I am honored to know them and will forever be grateful! Just because our way of life is very different doesn't mean that we have to treat each other poorly!

I am only one person, one American, but please know that the majority of the American public has a fascination for your country, not hate. Your people and the rich history that your part of the world has is wonderful.

If there were something that I could do to change things, I most certainly would do it. Thank you again for this wonderful web site. It allows myself and others to keep informed on events there and hopefully makes all of us think just a little bit harder about how we treat people!

Sincerely

Desert Films
