100 years of quitting smoking
You always hear things like "I haven't had a cigarette for three years..."
People are usually proud to have quit smoking for a week, a month, a year, five years, even up to thirty years -- and they'll often tell you about it. But you probably haven't heard of the fellow in Saudi Arabia who, reports Al-Ahram, hasn't had a cigarette for a hundred years. That's right, 131-year-old Ahmed El-Bahlouli quit smoking 100 years ago, back when he was working as a driver for Saudi King Abdel-Aziz Al-Saoud. The king was known to be strict, and most of those who worked with him ended up quitting smoking, he says.
The paper reports that El-Bahlouli was honored for his century of abstinence by a hospital in Jedda, where he lives.

Strange global news
Thailand's takeef equation
By telling employees to not come to work wearing suits, the Thai government was able to save on its electricity bills. Huh?
By not forcing the country's public sector employees to wear suits in the summer time, allowing them to come to the office dressed however they pleased -- in short sleeves, etc -- the government was able to significantly reduce air conditioning levels in office buildings, thus saving quite a bit of money. The Thai prime minister -- whose idea it was -- provided himself as the plan's #1 supporter, boasting that he was only using 4 out of 6 air conditioners in his conference room.
