Coffee downtown

Ingy asks:
"I want to go out, and I want to know some new coffee shops, I get bored from the some that I know  :( , can u help me

OK, Ingy, here's a short list of favorites for starters. You'll notice they're all Central Cairo -- meaning those in Heliopolis and Nasr City will have to trek out to get to these places. In any case, the downtown experience will be good for them.

Trianon
A definite favorite. Just down from the Hardees on Arab League Street in Mohandiseen.
This Danish chain is the gold standard as far as Al Zaieem is concerned. It has an open-air street-watching area, yummy coffee drinks, big
salads and decent service. Al-Zaieem recommends the Capo sandwich.

Retro
Behind the Shooting Club, next door to Bint Al Sultan restaurant on Thowra Square.
The newest entry in the Mohandiseen Coffee Cluster. It's small and comfy with an innovative menu that's worth exploring. Try the home-made pasta and the almond frappe.

Bellisarius
Intersection of Arab League St and Mohieddin Aboul Ezz
Large and couch-intensive. This place has two levels, lots of cushy chairs and dark nooks. Draws a younger, louder crowd, but still a great place to bring a book when it's not packed. The service, in Al Zaieem's experience, has been iffy, but the upstairs view is always nice.

Cilantro
157 26 July St. Zamalek
This place is hardly new, but they're always worth a visit. Nice atmosphere, good drinks and weird (occasionally quite good) sandwiches. The branch by AUC is nice too.

Happy coffee drinking!
