New
roles, new films
The young Sheikh
El-Shaarawi, plus Heneidi and Shaaban's new films
(cairolive.com,
April 1, 2002)
Comic super-star
Mohamed Heneidi is on the set of his upcoming film, "Sahib
Sahba", a tale of two friends.
The interesting thing about the new film is that Heneidi will
finally be back on screen with Ashraf Abdel-Baki, one of the other young
comedians who rose to fame along with Heneidi, with all of them being
single-billed in would-be blockbusters for the younger crowds.
Heneidi's last effort was Ga'ana Al-Bayan
Al-Tali, while Abdel-Baki's was Rasha
Garea.
Critics and fans alike have been urging Heneidi to re-team-up with Alaa
Walieddin in a new film, but both stars say the right script has yet to
come up.
As Hassan Youssef
delves deeper into the look and personality of the Sheikh El-Shaarawi
we all know from Friday sermons on TV over the years, another actor is
preparing to play the young Shaarwai in the earlier episodes of the TV
series being made about Shaarawi's life.
Ahmed El-Shafei, who plays Mustafa Kamel in the TV drama Qassim Amin,
tells Al-Akhbar that he was chosen for the part because of his excellent
Arabic, and for the fact that he has never played a hip youngster in any
previous series.
The producers thought the audience would not be comfortable with an
actor who had previously been seen partying on screen, in the role of
the budding young sheikh.
Is this a joke or what? Shaaban
Abdel-Rehim is set to star in yet another film, after the popular (if
not critical) success he received in Mowatin wa Mokhbir wa Harami.
According to a tiny item
in Al-Ahram, Shaaban's new film will be called "Fallah fil Congress", or
"An Egyptian farmer in Congress"... Is this going to be
something like the classic "Mr Smith
Goes to Washington", or more like Eddie Murphy's "The Distinguished
Gentleman". The item says the film is already in production and will be
co-starring Abeer Sabry, Alaa Morsi and Hassan Kami.
