Journey of the Sun

We asked you:
Where was the above picture taken?
And i
t took a while to get ten correct answers. Surely the angle has a lot to do with it. But those of you who followed your instincts and said, with confidence, that the photo was taken at the Pyramids,  are as right as can be. The pyramid in question is Khafre's -- you can tell by the solid casing at the top.

Wael Ezzedin, the photographer, says the guy on the camel in the photo was chasing him off the Giza Plateau as he took the photo. It was sunrise on New Year's Day, 1999.

Congratulations to the following ten cairolive.com readers with sharp eyes for anything Egyptian. They will soon receive an exclusive "I Love Torshi" cairolive.com bumper sticker.

Suspension of disbelief

The question was:
What is the name of this bridge, where is this part of it, and what year was it built?

The first person to answer all three questions about the bridge correctly was Mohamed El-Sayed Mahmoud.

The questions were:
What is the name of the bridge in the photo above?
Where is this particular stretch of the bridge?
When was it built?

Most people got the first question right -- after all, the 6 October Bridge is one of Cairo's most prominent landmarks.

It was the other two queries which were a little more complicated. Some thought the part of the bridge in the picture overlooked the Nile, but those in the know said the only part of 6 October built in the suspension bridge style was over Ghamra, and that that section of the bridge was built in 1999.

Congratulations to Mohamed El-Sayed Mahmoud, who gets a Star Trek watch courtesy of Showtime for being the first person to answer all three questions correctly.

Our eleven runners-up, who all answered the three questions after Mohamed, all get exclusive cairolive.com I Love Torshi bumper stickers.

Their names appear below:

Hatem Hassib Zaki
Mohamed Hussein
tamer2
Mai Rifai
Amr Mohammed
Mai Ebied
Rob Sanders
Amgad O. Gira
Emad A. ElKady
Merihan Tawfik
Ahmed El-Shaffee

Those who haven't sent in their mailing addresses should do so as soon as possible, so we can send out the bumper stickers.

Good luck with the new pic of the week contest!
