The producers of the new Egyptian TV series “Zaman Emadeddin” or “The Era of Emadeddin” reportedly spent an unprecedented LE 3 million on one part of its set -- the street for which the show is named. No expense was spared in the detailed re-creation of the Emad Ad-Din street of the classic era of household names such as “Naguib Al-Rehani” and “Sayed Darwich.” As reported in Akhbar Al-Youm, the street is actually considered by the producers to be the star of the upcoming series, which will feature actors Mahmoud Qabil, Kamal Abou-reya, and Dalal Abdul-Aziz, and will be directed by Hani Lasheen.

Filming of the new drama series, “Nelli Net,” featuring actress Nelli, will begin in the first week of July.  The musical series will be centered around Nelli’s failed attempts to find the man of her dreams on the Internet.  According to the brief story in Akhbar Al-Yaum, Nelli will physically enter the World Wide Web to find her lifelong mate.

The Egyptian TV Union raised nearly 6 million pounds for the Palestinian cause, reports Al-Ahram.  While nearly 800,000 pounds were donated directly as a result of radio advertisements and fund raisers, the majority of the money was raised in an auction featuring personal items donated by the likes of Naguib Mahfouz, Ahmed Zewail, and the family of the late Ahmed Mazhar.

After a long hiatus, famous actress/singer Sherihan is set to return to the small screen playing “Rab’aa Al-Adawiya,” a prominent figure in Islamic history.

Algerian diva Samira Said has just has finished filming her video duet with singer Cheb Mami. The song is called “Day after Day.” The filming was done in Cairo, and was directed by Sherif Sabri, reports Al-Ahram.

Big-time play director Galal Al-Sharkawi has cast 25 young actors in his latest play. While still at an experimental stage, the play is meant to be a socio-political-economic satire, poking fun at many of Egypt’s  problems. Amongst the topics to be addressed: the Israeli-Palestinian problem and role of Egyptian-American diplomacy.  The play opens next month, reports Al-Ahram.
