DOMESTIC POLITICS
The second round of the much-covered Bibliotheca Alexandrina reform conference opens with a speech by President Hosni Mubarak about the progress that has been made in that realm... Plus, here's
AP coverage of the reform conference...

UPDATED!
Released Ghad party chairman Ayman Nour speaks post-jail for the first time... He says the party plans to run serious contests against the NDP in both the presidential and parliamentary elections. "Nour said it would be an unequal fight against the NDP, but added: "It will be equal through their mistakes ... and in their very modest assets in hearts of Egyptians." He also gets some support from the EU... AP, meanwhile, adapts its most recent "Nour as hero" story after his release...

UPDATED!
US-EGYPT RELATIONS
The press defends Foreign Minister  Ahmed Abul-Gheit in this AFP account on the US and democracy.
This story started when an interview featuring tough talk and some charm by Abul-Gheit was painted by the Washington Post as a direct rebut to Bush's democracy optimism...
The interview got wide berth... here's BBC's version.
On the Arabic side, check zahma.com for Wafd's take -- "Abul-Gheit finally speaks!"
In related news, the Arabic press is speculati
ng wildly about the timing of the next Bush-Mubarak meeting in Washington.

MISCELLANEOUS
This Reuters photo of Dan Rather interviewing Mubarak in 1991 swings into the news stream, part of the media's retrospective as Rather, the venerated newsman, retires.

The lung camera, a new medical technique, is coming to Egypt.
