Night of nights
The holy month of Ramadan is rounding up. Muslims consider the last ten days to be the most important of Ramadan, especially considering that Lailat Al-Qadr, the night that the Quran was first revealed to Prophet Mohamed, falls somewhere in those ten days. Millions of people will be gathering in mosques tonight to pray tarawih, Ramadan's extra prayers. At the Amr Ibn El-'as mosque in Old Cairo, popular sheikh Mohamed Gibreel will be leading the prayers, which will culminate with a reading of the entire Qur'an. Last night, President Hosni Mubarak awarded prizes ranging from 4 to 300,000 Egyptian pounds in this year's international Qur'an memorization contest. Egypt won first prize in the competition.
