Uncertain itinerary: Powell in town

(cairolive.com, April 9, 2002)
US Secretary of State Colin Powell arrives in Cairo this afternoon after meeting with King Mohamed 6 in Morocco yesterday. King Mohamed -- in some way reflecting the sentiment in the Arab world that Powell's trip is not really meant to ensure Israel's rapid withdrawal from Palestinian cities -- asked the US Secretary of State why he did not go straight to the heart of the conflict in Jerusalem first.
Powell will be meeting with President Hosni Mubarak as he attempts to sound out moderate Arab views regarding the escalating crisis.

An item on Al-Akhbar's front page also reports that an Egyptian delegation will be visiting Syrian factories in an attempt to find out the exact production costs of the cotton goods in question.
