A peek at the world's press

(cairolive.com, May 13, 2002) Four headlines on the front page of Al-Akhbar on Monday are noteworthy... they're all quotes from the Western press.
CNN called the Sharm El-Sheikh mini summit a confirmation of the Saudi peace plan.
The Washington Post's article on the decline in violent extremism in Egypt is headlined.
The Independent's story regarding a decline in sales of American products being the result of the boycott is also brought to attention.
And finally, an item from the Sunday Telegraph: Saddam suggests hosting Arafat.
The paper thus manages to pick and choose from the Western coverage it has decided to show its readers. A useful, friendly service bringing other voices and opinions to the forefront as well as giving those who can't read English a window into what the press around the world is reporting..

Quick inspiration

(cairolive.com, May 13, 2002) Scriptwriter Youssry El-Guindy wasted no time in deciding to do a feature film on the Church of the Nativity standoff.
He'll be heading to Bethlehem with director Said Marzouq  to interview and talk to same of the church leaders and resistance fighters who had intimate knowledge of the siege.
The film will be a co-production by several Arab satellite channels, says El-Akhbar, and will be dubbed into English and French in an attempt to let the whole world know what really happened there.
El-Guindy says there is plenty of material to mine for good dramatic stories.
