War talk

Your protest text-and-pix coverage on cairolive.com was excellent.
Daniel Bernard

I am a belly dance teacher living in England. I have to tell you that all British people do not support the war in Iraq. In fact we are extremely angry that this is happening.
Through my work I try to bring another culture to the people I teach, so they can learn to shed ignorance and grow to be better people.
I have Egyptian friends here who are happy lovely people. I do not want Egyptians to think we are all in support of this dreadful war.
Roz Rayner-Rix

I am an English person living in Cairo and fully support the anti-war demonstrations. War is not the answer to this mess and I find it so hard to believe that the American and British government believe this will solve any problems - it just increases the tension. We have already heard Saddam talking about a holy war -- this has nothing to do with religious beliefs!!! Many many people from all walks of life and all types of religion are against this war and I hope for the sake of the world that the message that comes out of this is that the majority of people in this world want to get on with their lives peacefully. There must be a better way to rid the world of evil dictators without targeting the poor innocent victims.
Anonymous

I support the war in Iraq. No one will disagree that war is a terrible, sad thing. No one is "pro-war". But there comes a time when war is necessary.
Although there are aspects of Iraq's political system that are good, such as the secular government that allows freedom of religion, Hussein abuses his own people, and I support the war because I want to see their suffering end. We need to be on the side of justice by being a friend to the oppressed people. The United States has a lot of power, and with that a responsibility to defend the helpless.
I respect the rights of the protesters to express their views on this issue. I know they believe in what they're doing, but we need to do what's right. It's painful, but peace has a price. In an imperfect world sometimes we have to take a stand against evil.
God's heart is with both the Americans and Iraqis, and if none of us really care about any of them, He cares about even the worst of us.
Stacy Reitz

Why isn't the Arab world supporting Iraq's call for jihad? This is shameful!
Geri Buckley

I think Syria should not get involved in the war. The biblical end times scenario includes Damascus in what can only be described as a nuclear catastrophe of Biblical proportions.
Diana

The bombardment of Baghdad is no different than what is happening between the Israelis and the Palestinians. Are we going to see another West Bank or Gaza? Will the Arabs allow another Arab country to be sacrificed?

Hating Saddam, hating Bush

Truth is that we have the same God, and he wants us to live in peace, loving and caring for each other. America attacks a despot, a bad man who pains his people, and not Islam, not an Arabian people. It's not because they're Arab that it's okay. It's not because they're American that it's good either. Maybe freedom, love and friendship are scaring those who have power and money. We all have our own blindness; all of us.
Martin

I am against this war along with millions of other Americans who feel the reasons are not just -- they are lies. But out voices are in vain. What a mess this Bush has made. God be with the people of the world.
Ray

As an ex-serviceman for the US Navy please accept my apologies for our president.

Forgotten civilizations

One of the reasons there is no mention of Iraq in the British museum is because most of the items there have items from Mesopotamia, Assyria and Babylon... there was no Iraq in those days... If you look in the other departments you will see artifacts from other ancient civilizations... they mention Ceylon, they do not mention Sri Lanka the modern day term. Come on chaps, fair play... I think you are splitting hairs on this one...
I read cairolive.com every morning and enjoy the read, but this one was very unfair and gives a very wrong impression... The British Museum has nothing to to with Blair or Bush...
Jean Thornton

Crazy exhibit

I think it's wonderful.
Chuck

Wish I could have seen this! I was however, lucky enough to be at the Millennium Celebration in 2000 at the Jean Michel Jarre concert.. Will never forget it.. Hope to get back there again one day soon.
Karen Alexander

Horseman revisited

I am an American of German descent. Unfortunately I don't speak Arabic. I am very interested in seeing the series "Horseman without a Horse", about which I have heard so much. Here in America, as you know, most Americans are completely brainwashed by the media. If this TV series were available with English subtitles it would go a long way to take the scales out of the eyes of many Americans.
Alfred

Cairo by night

Good work Youssef. Keep it up. I hope you are doing well..
Abo el Leil

Bibliotheca...

Fantastic architecture...
Theo Kieweid

I am in awe! This is an incredible site that I hope, someday, to be able to witness!

Darwich's corner

Darwich's diaries are a pleasure to read.

nonymous

Sounds like Darwich enjoys his life and his call to Egypt is deep. I think he is very fortunate because it sounds like he knows where his heart is. I wish him well in life and I am sure that is how it shall be. I enjoyed the story of his life -- thank you for the fine write.
Jan Wisekal

The usual praise

I read your updates every day. They are great. You captured all the important topics as I thought you would. The coverage from Cairo in the US media is intense these days and you have a way of getting that.

Having visited Cairo four times in 2000 I do have a great passion for your city and your people. I would just like to voice my opinion in that I appreciate cairolive.com where I can be taken back in my mind and know what is going on in the streets of Cairo and surrounding areas. Good luck with the peace rallies. Your voice is heard around the world.
JT

Hey guys, great job on the Shrinking Globe and Zahma news pages. Thanks.

Good website, with lots of different subjects. I like the newspaper links. Keep up the good work.
Nabeel Attia

I just saw your update of news this afternoon and it seems you follow all available news in both English and Arabic very well. Thank you.
