Digging for bargains

"3 pounds a book... Any book for 3 pounds," yells out this man at Sur El-Ezbikeya, the famous second-hand book market that always accompanies the Cairo International Book Fair. With its seemingly endless stalls teeming with reasonably-priced old books, the market is famous as a place where you might find anything from a battered copy of a turn of the century obscure English novel to a pristine first edition of a Tolstoy classic. It all depends on how deeply you dig. Sur El-Ezbikaya also features plenty of second-hand magazines, many of them vintage editions like the ones pictured above.

Cairo live will be revisiting the book fair over the next two weeks with brand new features and exciting interactive adventures. Stay tuned and visit us often for plenty of pictures and news from one of Cairo's biggest cultural events.
