Crime Building collapses, kills 3 A dilapidated building in Al-Sayeda Zeinab collapsed early on Friday morning, leaving a man and his two young children dead, and four other residents injured. Neighbors were evacuated in fear of other buildings collapsing. The 3-story building had previously been condemned, and disputes between owners, tenants and the government were ongoing. Al-Wafd's coverage of the tragedy includes an interview with a young man who was out of the house Thursday night, and came home in the morning to find the building gone. Fearing for his mother in the wreckage, he found her safe and sound. "She had been come back late from the Mulid (carnival) of El-Refai," he says, and decided to pray fajr at the nearby mosque before going home. It was right then that the building went down." Meanwhile, on the paper's previous page, as part of a regular section where readers write in with their problems, a prominently-placed photo caption story warns officials that a Sidi Gaber apartment building has a serious structural problem that may be result in a tragedy like the one in Sayeda Zeinab. It urges the authorities to investigate quickly before "a real disaster occurs." Sports Zamalek picks up the "Super" Zamalek won the Egyptian "Super" championship cup on Friday night, after defeating Ghazl El-Mahalla in a contest Al-Wafd called "mediocre." The winners will be taking home LE100,000 as a prize. World Cup to show free The papers all report that world soccer governing body FIFA has agreed to be understanding of poor economic conditions in Africa -- offering broadcast rights to next year's World Cup tournament games to the continent free of charge. The move -- which only includes terrestrial channels -- came amidst much public and official hand-wringing over pay satellite TV networks' attempts to monopolize the broadcasts, by buying and charging for them at an arm and a leg. Ad watch Logo cartouche A very clever ad appeared in the papers recently, for BNP Paribas, a French-Egyptian bank.
